Steel power poles are being trialled in part of Yanchep with their installation expected to be completed at the end of October, according to Western Power.
This week a Western Power spokeswoman said the trial of steel poles was aimed at increasing network resilience.
“As part of the trial, we’re replacing 33 wood poles with steel poles to test their viability as an alternative solution,’’ the spokeswoman said.
“The steel pole trial is taking place on a section of the network within Yanchep National Park that is due for renewal.
“This is the only part of the national park where the poles are being replaced at this stage.’’
The spokeswoman said the Yanchep Inn was operating off a generator installed by Western Power to provide the business with reliable supply of power while the power line was being rebuilt.
Construction started in early October and is expected to finish by the end of October.
Yanchep News Online asked how much the Yanchep trial cost but the utility said cost information was commercial in confidence and could not be shared.
The utility said it was continually working to improve network resilience with about $1 billion invested annually in network upgrades and maintenance to manage safety, reliability, and environmental risks.
