A former local is taking on Australia’s highest peak this weekend in support of young people with cerebral palsy.
Kara Collins is participating in the annual Cerebral Palsy Alliance fundraising event – Krazy Kosci Klimb – where 16 young people with the neurological disorder and their team trek or wheel the 18kms up to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko and back again.
Teams include family members, a team sponsor and a team leader. Kara is representing real estate services firm JLL as part of the team supporting 8-year-old Anika Facer.
She will be joined on the February 8 adventure by her parents Kylie and Kris, her Uncle Matt, two representatives from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance and four representatives from corporate sponsors JLL.
“It is very exciting, and we’re looking forward to it,” Anika’s mum, Kylie said.
“The day will be full of music and each checkpoint they’ve got different things to keep the kids spirits up and obviously when we reach the top we will be able to get that incredible photo of Anika standing at the highest point of Australia.
Anika is one of the youngest participants this year and she has chosen Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue as her song and their team theme is the TV show Miraculous.
“It feels amazing to combine my work in the diversity, equity and inclusion space raising awareness of people with disabilities having equal opportunities and being supported to be the best version of themselves,” Kara said.
“And best of all I get to come home and be a part of an event in the mountains!”
Each team works together to fundraise in the lead up to the event by encouraging family, friends, work colleagues and the local community to donate in support of kids with cerebral palsy.
