A competitor in the Corryong Paragliding Open escaped almost unscathed after crashing on Mt Mittamatite on Monday. The female pilot got into diffiulty when her sails folded in on her, forcing her to use her emergency parachute.
She landed in dense bush on the Corryong side of Mt Mittamatite and became stranded in a tree.
It is understood that she was in communication with the event’s safety officer and she was in good health and had a supply of water.
A helicopter was subsequently deployed from Melbourne to extract her and after being suspended for more than an hour she was winched to safety.
Paramedics responded to the incident at around 3:30pm but no emergency treatment or transport was required.
It is believed that the pilot shrugged off her near miss and was back in the air the following day!
