Local talent shines on the stage

Recent stories

Over 400 people enjoyed local theatre at its best on the weekend as they watched The Emperor’s New Clothes performed by the Piggery Lane Players. A big shout out goes to director, Will Lynch, and assistant director, Karen Shurdington, along with the talented cast and skilled crew as they brought this classic folktale to life.

Embellished with classic pantomime humour, singing and dancing, the audience laughed and gasped as they watched the story unfold.

The plot was based on clothes-obsessed Emperor Montague Preen running a competition to design his jacket for the Grand Parade. Twists and turns followed. The audience grieved with the bereft Nimby family about to lose both their farm and their beloved cow, they laughed at the antics of the villains and sighed longingly at the young love of the prince and the farmer’s daughter. Laughter shook the auditorium as the villains appeared to be about to achieve their goal.

Earlier in the year, Piggery Lane Players held a ‘Design- the-Emperor’s Coat’ competition. Three winning entries were chosen and talented local artist, Kim Gibson, painted these onto a coat worn by the emperor in the Grand Parade at each of the three performances. He looked sensational.

Comments from those who attended included, “Incredible show”, “Fabulous performance”, “Thanks for the laughs”.

To paraphrase another comment, it was a wonderful and entertaining production and a fabulous team effort from all involved. “Congratulations, Piggery Lane Players, for spending so much time and energy to entertain Nhill – you did us proud.”
