Mobile coverage extended

Recent stories

Residents and visitors to the Upper Murray are now enjoying improved mobile phone coverage and connectivity, with the recent construction of three new Telstra mobile base stations in the region.

Two towers have been built at Koetong and Burrowye and a new small-cell base station has been activated south-west of Cudgewa under the federal government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.

Telstra Regional General Manager, Jenny Gray, said these mobile base stations will create new Telstra 4G coverage and help reduce mobile coverage black spots.

“We know the community’s been looking forward to this new mobile Mobile coverage extended site and I’m pleased to say we’ve completed construction and been able to bring these sites on-air,” Ms Gray said.

“Each day across Australia we have about 20 million devices using our mobile network, making about 60 million phone calls, sending 40 million SMS and using about 8.6 million Gigabytes of mobile data.

“Co-investment programs such as this, where carriers like Telstra and the government work together to share the cost in bringing new coverage in regional and rural locations, are really important in helping improve connectivity outcomes.

“We know how important that is today and these new sites not only help reduce mobile black spots in this area but also improve capacity and 4G coverage and provide additional triple zero connectivity.

“Building these new sites, in partnership with the government, shows we are committed to delivering vital infrastructure and upgrades to boost throughout this area.”
