Last Saturday, July 20, 2024, prior to scheduled games of club football, netball and hockey, former players, officials and others gathered at Donald’s A. A. Dunstan Stadium to celebrate the North-Central District’s history-making victory in the Victorian Country Football Championships at Warrnambool, on Saturday, July 20, 1974.
Sadly, several of the stars of that incredible victory have since passed on, but the organisers of Saturday’s gathering were able to contact all others, except brilliant Wedderburn winger, Allan Wills. Apologies were received from Hugh Delahunty (currently in Canada), Greg Robertson (touring central Australia), and John Forster (at Magnetic Island).
Master of Ceremonies, North-Central life member, Shane O’Shea, explained that leading the charge for the reunion had been former player Chris Brown, team captain Maurie Wood, and team selector Bill Anderson, with Bill enlisting the services of several family members to help make the day a special one.
More details of the hugely successful reunion will appear in Friday’s Buloke Times.
