Westbrook celebrates Halloween in style

Recent stories

Estimates of around 1,000 trick or treaters and adults roamed the streets of Westbrook last Tuesday to celebrate one of the biggest days of the year for families.

Rather than a traditional-style trick or treating arrangement, the Westbrook Lions organised a street closure in the part of town which sees the most houses participate.

Lots of activity was centred on Kennard Street as well as neighbouring Maculan Crescent.

Other streets that embraced the occasion include Lytton Street, Wandoo Crescent, Rubie Court and Grundy, Whitman and Elizabeth streets.

Matt Norton, Westbrook Lion and an organiser of the event, said the event was well received.

“People appreciated the ability to go to one location, allowing minimal walking for trick or treating,” Mr Norton said.

“Funding from Toowoomba Regional Council community grants covered costs including the road closure.”

The demand was so high that houses with hundreds and hundreds of lollies to hand out to children ran out of supplies.

The Westbrook Lions themselves provided 5,000 lollies.

The event attracted families from outside Westbrook, including Toowoomba, Southbrook and Kingsthorpe.

Mr Norton said he would like to thank Westbrook IGA for donating hot dogs and Westy’s Pizza for donating drinks.

He said the event’s success means the Westbrook Lions and other community volunteers feel compelled to make Westbrook Halloween an annual tradition.

“It’s almost like we can’t stop now,” he said.

Between the Westbrook event held on Halloween night and a huge Wyreema event held a few days beforehand, local kids have well and truly had their sugar fix this Halloween.
