Nobby writes its own song

Recent stories

Travelling singer-songwriter Josh Arnold visited Nobby State School last week to help finalise the new school song with the assistance of the students, who helped encapsulate what the school is all about.

Over three days in total, including Thursday and Friday last week, Josh and the students helped formulate the lyrics and music, rehearse and then record the audio and video for the song.

Josh said it was important for the students to incorporate the village of Nobby into the lyrics.

This was achieved through lines such as “Sunrise over the Wheatfields”, “Growing up together in the open space” and using the school’s motto, “caring, committed and respectful.” The whole process proved to be a blast for students.

They loved being able to write and sing and think about what makes their school unique, important and fun to them. All students were involved in singing the chorus and three students were able to sing solos.

Two students performed with the clarinet and three on percussion.

Acting Principal Gemma Thorpe said the school had worked together with the P&C to get Josh out there. She said it was a great initiative to create a school song and have fun doing it.

Josh Arnold has been travelling to schools across Southern Queensland for many years, previously recording songs for Back Plains State and Clifton State High School, among others.

The school song video will be released shortly on the Josh Arnold Facebook and Youtube pages.
