Council seeks collaborators to address housing shortage

Recent stories

West Wimmera Shire Council is calling on individuals, investors and businesses to help address housing shortages in the region.

Council has been working in close collaboration with Wimmera Southern Mallee Development for several years to explore ways to attract investment in the shire’s housing sector.

Council is now calling on ratepayers to help make housing or properties available for development in the region.

Mayor Tim Meyer said Council wanted to hear from ratepayers who either: owned property and were considering development opportunities; owned land they are willing to sell for development purposes; or needed guidance on how to initiate development.

He said Council also wanted to hear from anyone on the lookout for housing in the region, or anyone who was interested in investing in a housing development project, with potential returns.

“Our vision revolves around developing quality housing that caters to diverse needs,” Cr Meyer said.

“We invite anyone who shares our vision to join the conversation.”

Cr Meyer said a critical benefits of improving housing availability was addressing the workforce needs in the region.

“There are plenty of skilled and unskilled job opportunities in the shire, having available housing is crucial for the growth and development of our communities.”
