Greenmount and Vale View gardens open for inspection

Recent stories

Spring is the time of year when all gardeners get excited as their gardens come to life after the period of hibernation during Winter.

Another reason for gardeners to get excited this Spring is the chance to visit outstanding gardens at Greenmount and Vale View.

Gardens of the Downs is a self-funded not for profit organisation which allows the general public to view outstanding garden displays in our local community.

It is aimed at promoting an awareness of the range of benefits to be gained from gardening.

With this in mind, admission prices are kept to a minimum and visitors under 18 – the gardeners of the future – are admitted free of charge.

All monies generated are used to cover costs with the remainder being donated to charities.

Gardens of the Downs is an exciting concept aimed at all gardeners, novice and veteran.

On 21st and 22nd October four gardens will be open for inspection:

27 Stenzel Road, Greenmount:

The garden of Cathy and Allan Stenzel is a Cottage Garden with magnificent roses and perennials.

217 Strickland Road, Greenmount:

The garden of Judy and Phil Thiess is a “town garden” with lots of natives and designed for privacy.

97 Warkon Street, Greenmount:

The garden of Bev and Tony Herschell is a country garden with magnificent views of the Greenmount area.

274 Lucks Road, Vale View:

The garden of Tonia and Paul Grundy is a magnificent Japanese Garden that is not to be missed.

Well known gardening identity Penny McKinlay said all gardens were wonderful places to visit and to admire the views and learn about the secrets of producing a great garden.
