Volunteer network sparks interest
On Thursday July 3, a passionate group of 16 individuals gathered at cluBarham to expand on the groundwork they laid at the initial volunteerism roundtable held in May. The group reflected on the challenges that can be presented in attracting new members, enticing a younger demographic, the vast range of skills available in the area, and often the overlooked aspects or roles that many don’t know even exist.
Too many compromises says Cr
Patricia Gill. Shire councillor Aaron Wiggins described the approval of 15 tiny cabins on Raintree Estate as 'too many compromises' without getting the best result for the community. Cr Wiggins moved the motion to approve the development 'en bloc' of five separate lots, at the June 24 Denmark Shire Council meeting. Though he moved the motion, he was against it.
Photos wanted for memorial
A collaboration of local community groups is working together on a project to construct a memorial in Corryong's Avenue of Honour and missing photos of local servicemen and women who served in World War I are being sought for the tribute.
Corryong celebrates milestone
The community is being invited to get on board for the the celebrations as Corryong marks its 150th anniversary this month with a week of community-led events, exhibitions and activities that mark its rich heritage, pioneering spirit and vibrant local culture. Running from Sunday 20 July to Sunday 27 July, 2025, the '150 Years of Corryong' commemoration will bring together residents, visitors and artists to share in the stories, momentous occasions and memories that have shaped the town's story over generations.
‘Hippy’ happy with arts progress

Merger will not restore deleted emergency capability

On May 20, 2025, the fisheries authority (VFA) finalised an organisational restructure, under which it has since shed 30 (44 per cent) of the state's 69 Fisheries Officers; leaving just 39 officers to patrol Victoria's 2,512 km coastline, 10,000 square km of ocean waters and 170,000 km of inland water frontage along 85,000 km of rivers and creeks.
