A collaboration of local community groups is working together on a project to construct a memorial in Corryong’s Avenue of Honour and missing photos of local servicemen and women who served in World War I are being sought for the tribute.
The project involves The Man from Snowy River Tourism Association, Upper Murray Historical Society, Corryong and District Memorial Hall and Corryong RSL which plans to develop a section of the grassed Towong Road median strip between the Commonwealth Bank and the Corryong Country Inn.
The memorial will include two carved trees representing our servicemen and women from World War I, a granite seat, a memorial plaque and information signage.
After extensive research the names of the 127 servicemen and women from Corryong who served has been finalised and service photos of 42 of those have been located.
