Australia Day wash-out, awards to take place at council chambers

Australia Day dawned less than sunny last Friday, and unfortunately for all those looking forward to watching the annual Australia Day Awards being presented and then participating in the fun to follow. Preparations were well underway when the sky opened up, and unfortunately, due to safety concerns arising from the lightning, Australia Day events were postponed.

Cambooya Australia Day 2024 – community event – Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge

The Get Chopped Community Events Inc. group hosted the inaugural Greenmount Billy Cart Challenge which drew hundreds of onlookers and participants from across Queensland. More than 800 people braved the inclement weather on event day to watch the 65 participants navigate Greenmount’s main street.

The Cambooya Australia Day committee landed a bull’s-eye when it selected hard-working Cambooya Rural Fire Brigade volunteer John Archer as the Citizen of the Year. Marking 236 years since the European colonisation of Australia began, last Friday, 26 January, residents of Cambooya and surrounds attended the local Australia Day event.

Fun activities on offer as Grong Grong celebrates Australia Day

Australia Day celebrations in Grong Grong started with a flag raising in the park followed by festivities at the Royal Hotel Grong Grong. Yabby races were held and this year Royal Hotel Grong Grong donated a $100 voucher as prizemoney and Grong Grong Anglers Club bought a Trophy to stay at the pub.
