Special flight

Recent stories

Naracoorte will host an event of the popular Tasting Australia program in May 2024.

And for the first time ever, the festival will bring visitors from interstate direct to regional South Australia, with a charter plane flying from Melbourne direct to Naracoorte as part of a new Tasting Australia Airlines experience.

The event plays an important role in telling the state’s food and beverage story, and this time, it’s our turn.

Naracoorte-Lucindale Council chief executive officer Trevor Smart said the event was a positive promotion of the town.

“While the charter flight will fly directly to Naracoorte and will include a tasting event and visit to the World Heritage Naracoorte Caves, this will also be part of a wider regional tour,” Mr Smart said.

He said he hoped the promotion would result in return visits.

“Any promotion of our town, community, and region is positive, and aside from this event, it is hoped that the promotion may result in return visitation and promotion across visitors own networks.”

Mr Smart said that in preparation, the council will assist in promoting the event in cooperation with Tasting Australia.

Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison said the 2024 program was filled with culinary experiences unique to the state.

“I look forward to welcoming visitors to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences across Adelaide and regional South Australia,” Ms Bettison said.

“With exciting new additions for 2024, including experiences that bring visitors directly to the region from interstate, the benefits of this event are only set to grow.

“As our nation’s longest-running culinary festival, Tasting Australia is one of the many events that make South Australia a must-visit event destination and will come hot on the heels of the highly anticipated AFL Gather Round and LIV Golf Adelaide next April.”

The 10-day event is one of the more than 150 events across the state that will showcase the best of South Australian food and beverage from May 3 to 12.

International chefs Asma Khan (UK), Claudette Zepeda (US), and James Henry (France) will feature across the festival, alongside a national and local lineup including Matt Moran, Julia Busuttil Nishimura, Justin James, and Jake Kellie.
