Farming families and small business owners across the country have been left speechless by the Agriculture and Small Business Minister Julie Collins’ response in question time ... regarding proposed changes to superannuation. When asked whether the changes would result in a tax bill on unrealised gains even in years with zero or negative income, the Minister confirmed farmers would have to find the cash – potentially forcing the sale of family farms.

NFF condemns Greens’ reckless proposal on environment laws: NFF

The National Farmers' Federation (NFF) vehemently opposes the Greens' proposal to remove continuing use provisions and ban native forestry in exchange for passing the Albanese Government's Nature Positive bills.  NFF Deputy CEO Charlie Thomas slammed the proposal as a dangerous overreach that threatens the viability of Australian agriculture.  

Elders enters into agreement to acquire Delta Agribusiness

Australian agribusiness Elders Limited (ASX: ELD) has entered into an agreement to acquire 100 per cent of the shares in Delta Agribusiness Pty Ltd (Delta) for an enterprise value of $475 million. Established in 2006, Delta is an Australian agribusiness providing a range of products and services through a network of 68 locations and approximately 40 independent wholesale customers.

Elders reports steady FY24 earnings

Australian agribusiness Elders has today released its results for the 12 months to 30 September 2024. Elders recorded a resilient FY24 earnings result, with improved second half trading partially offsetting the negative earnings impact from the first quarter which resulted from low livestock prices, lower crop protection margin and subdued client sentiment.

Agricultural lending on the rise: ABARES

The latest agricultural lending statistics provided by the Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority (APRA) show an increase in lending to the farm sector of 6 per cent in 2022-23, reaching $120.5 billion. Executive Director of ABARES Dr Jared Greenville said that while the amount of debt had risen, the reasons point to ongoing investment in the sector.
