Islander and 7th generation Pinetree’s kid, Pixie Hanson, just had her first international race. She finished 2nd in the Open Women at the XTERRA New Zealand Triathlon Championships (Short Distance) in Rotorua, which earned her an invitation to compete at the XTERRA World Championships in the USA in October.
XTERRA races are off-road, so the mountain bike and run legs of the triathlon are on technical single track (and not for the faint hearted). Her trail runs on Lord Howe as a kid were perfect preparation. It was a great return to racing for Pixie after a slow recovery from injury over the summer of 2025. Prior to her injury, Pixie won the NSW Super Sprint Triathlon Championships (U16) in October, 2025, so she’s progressing well on both road and mountain bikes.
