People who travel past the Wilcannia Local Aboriginal Land Council will have noticed a new business sign outside – YILABARA.
This is the new trading name for the NSW Local Aboriginal Land Council’s Employment and Training program – Yilabara Solutions, the new version of CDP (Community Development Program).
Yilabara is 100 per cent Aboriginal owned. It delivers a range of services around training, and employment. It supports businesses to meet their social responsibilities. Here in Wilcannia, this means, among many things, partnering with organisations like the Central Darling Shire Council and the Wilcannia TAFE NSW to support Aboriginal people to take on apprenticeships and training. Wilcannia Yilabara also provide outreach service to White Cliffs, Tibooburra and Ivanhoe.
Wilcannia Yilabara staff:
- Reena Staker – Area Manger
- Monica Whyman- Employment consultant
- Robert Clayton – Employment consultant
Yilabara means ‘NOW” in Wiradjuri language.
The Wilcannia News team is dropping in regularly to catch up with what this new organisation is doing. The staff are very welcoming and are keen to keep the community updated through the Wilcannia News.
