The Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster, the Iconic Kimberley Festival, has a packed program of events across nine days, from 17 to 25 May 2024 in Kununurra.

The Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster was awarded a silver medal at the  prestigious national 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards held in Darwin on Friday 15 March, 2024. 

Held annually each May for the past 22 years, the ‘Muster’ is a bucket list event for travellers seeking unique Kimberley experiences.

From big concerts to station luncheons, laugh-out-loud comedy, Indigenous culture, arts, fashion and family-friendly festivities, the Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster kicks off the East Kimberley’s tourism season.

A highlight of the nine-day Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster festival, the Nexus Airlines Kimberley Moon Experience is headlined by The Screaming Jets, Rogue Traders, Sarah McLeod and Bob Evans on Saturday 18th May 2024.

The Kimberley’s Iconic Festival program includes Art in the Park, 27 Club, Storytelling Night, Mortgage Choice Kimberley Comedy in the Park, Corroboree Under The Stars, the free Horizon Power Party in the Park and more.

Get ready for big-belly laughs at the Mortgage Choice Kimberley Comedy in the Park, held for one night only at the Festival Hub on Wednesday, 22nd May.

One of Australia’s hottest comedians and most likeable rogues, the Irish comic Jimeoin, is bringing his new stand-up show ‘The Craic’ to Kununurra. A night of guaranteed side-splitting laughter awaits as Jimeoin is joined by Daniel Connell, Ting Lim and Sian Choyce.

Adding a delicious cultural event to the Muster program on Tuesday, May 21st, and Wednesday, May 22nd is the new format Art, Culture and Cusine by Blak Tapas in conjunction with Waringarri Aboriginal Arts.

Starting from the oldest art centre in WA with a traditional welcome performed by Miriwoong elders, participants move on to Country for a didgeridoo performance in a majestic location during a beautiful Kimberley sunset.

Savour bush tucker prepared by local caterers, Blak Tapas and learn about Miriwoong native flavours while devouring delicious canapés and dishes made with foraged foods that have sustained local Indigenous people for thousands of years.

On Thursday 23rd May is the popular Corroboree Under The Stars, a mesmerising night of traditional dance and performancepresented by the Waringarri Aboriginal Arts. The cultural experiences continue at the Waringarri Art Experience held on various dates and Storytelling Night on Monday 20th May, an evening to immerse yourself in storytelling led by local Miriwoong Elder David Newry, a truly unique cultural experience.

For early birds, the serene Yoga Boat offers a perfect start to your day amidst the picturesque Packsaddle Lagoon, while the Morning Ord Experience, a scenic cruise covering 55 kilometers to Lake Argyle, allows you to revel in the breathtaking landscapes, wildlife, and the rich flora and fauna along the route, courtesy of Triple J Tours.

For a special day out, join Aviair for the small group outing to the Exclusive Bullo River Lunch and Station Tour on Monday 20th May, or El Questro for their Twilight Table on Friday 24th May. Cyclists, mountain bikers and adventurers will love the Gibb Challenge that sees 350 cyclists tackle the Gibb River Road from Derby through the vast savannah to Kununurra.

The Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster celebrates the local East Kimberley community with free festivities at Horizon Power Party in the Park at the Festival Hub on Friday 24th May.

Don the denim and grab a cowboy hatfor the Kununurra Campdraft and Rodeo Association’s Top End Mustering Rodeo, which closes the festival Saturday, 25th May.

Kununurra in Western Australia’s northwest, is Miriwoong and Gajirrabeng country. The curated program is a mix of events that reflect the East Kimberley as well as featuring a line up of exciting artists never before seen in Kununurra.

Leave the everyday behind, hitch the caravan and explore the beautiful, otherworldly expanse of the East Kimberley. It’s a place that grounds you, and its red dust never leaves you. And during the ‘Muster’ it’s where you can dine under a galaxy of stars and wake up with a blissful floating yoga session on the Ord River.

You’ll feel another world away thanks to Kununurra’s big skies, far horizons, distant ranges and fat boab trees just waiting for hugs. The sunsets here are so beautiful, filling the sky with every shade of yellow, orange and red, like standing inside a living kaleidoscope.
