Ovens River Challenge 2024: Australian Trout Foundation

Recent stories

Australian Trout Foundation

The Ovens River Challenge at Myrtleford, Victoria is again on for young and old, with fishing activities allowed from midnight Friday 22 March until Sunday 24 March at 12 noon. Families are most welcome and can enjoy a classic free Aussie BBQ sizzle from noon Sunday when winners will receive generous gift cards and fishing tackle prizes.

Widely renowned wildlife artist and fly fisher, Trevor Hawkins, will be present to show some of his fantastic works of fish and bird art, and we hope to get Trevor to complete a painting onsite.

The Victorian Inland Fisheries Alliance partners, Native Fish Australia and Australian Trout Foundation, generously supported by the Victorian Fisheries Authority, are the organisers of this important “Citizen Science” gathering event. This involves recording every fish caught, supported by photos, and in which locations.

In particular, we are researching the abundance of the endangered Macquarie Perch and Trout Cod. Andrew Briggs from the VFA will want to record all catches of these species at the challenge, and further information of recent catches as well.

In addition to the NFA & ATF Committee Members, Inland Fisheries Managers and Directors will be in attendance to discuss all aspects of our Inland Fisheries. North East and Goulburn Broken CMA’s will also be present to discuss any proposed habitat restoration projects.

Registration details are included on the flyer.
