City of Greater Bendigo, Media Release, 11 March 2024

Bendigo Art Gallery’s latest blockbuster exhibition, Paris: Impressions of Life 1880-1925, will open this Saturday, March 16.

Journey through the streets of historic Paris, brought to life in more than 170 works of art and artisanal objects from the renowned collection of the Musée Carnavalet – History of Paris.

Across seven themed pathways, visitors will explore the city of light and romance at the height of the mythic Belle Époque period – as seen through the eyes of Parisians. Visitors will be transported through the bustling open-air markets, specialty shops and luxury department stores, idyllic gardens, and busy industrial banks of the Seine by day, to glamourous theatres, restaurants, and the thrilling cabarets of Montmartre by night.

This ambitious exhibition is the first to be developed by the Musée Carnavalet – History of Paris for an international venue and is drawn entirely from its own collection; providing an unprecedented opportunity for Australian audiences to gain unique insights into the breadth of the museum’s collection.
