Photographer captures beauty of buildings in country towns

Recent stories

Greg Davis likes to photograph buildings.

Somehow, he captures the essence of a building in his pictures showing the character and history of a town through bricks and mortar.

“I never realised my town is so beautiful,” is what someone once said to him and it is this sentiment that drives him to travel the country taking photographs.

Greg lives in Sydney although he spends a lot of time travelling.

In 2017 he came to Kyogle.

“I have friends who live on the Gold Coast and we did a road trip for about a week,” he said.

That trip included Warwick, Stanthorpe – and Kyogle.

“I do a bit of planning before I go to somewhere I haven’t been before.”

Greg’s photos of Kyogle buildings were recently shared on social media again.

Some of the buildings he photographed in Kyogle have changed. Like the curved metal building in Bloore Street which is now the Kyogle Community Pantry.

“I get the satisfaction of crafting nice images,” Greg said.

“I like front-on shots.”

The most difficult thing is getting a clear shot of the building without cars or people in front of it, he said.

His style of architectural photography captures the building in a way that those who pass by that same building every day may not have noticed.

“My passion is finding the long-forgotten or unusual places and capturing images before they disappear. Abandoned buildings, bridges, roads and rail are my favourites.”
