Southern Highlands Carriage Club, Media Release, 7 February 2024

There is cause to celebrate in the Southern Highlands with the completion of an international standard Arena in Bundanoon, and everyone is invited to the Grand Opening at 11am on Saturday 17 February.

Secretary of the Southern Highlands Carriage Club, Yvonne Wood, was instrumental in securing the Stronger Country Communities fund via NSW Division of Regional Development and Programs Grant as she saw a need for such a facility in this region.

“Our application for funding to build such an arena began in 2021” Mrs Wood said, “And we’re grateful there was merit in our application. Now, after such a long process, this dream has been completed!”

“We are excited that a facility of such a high standard is now available not only to the Southern Highlands Carriage Club, but equestrian groups throughout the region.”

Already the arena has attracted Southern Villages Pony Club, NSW AQHA Ranch and the Australian Draught Horse Society. Now that’s multi disciplinary!

And this is another feather in the cap of the Carriage Club, which was awarded the 2023 International Carriage Club of the Year by the British Carriage Driving Society. The Club, renown for its training and staging of international carriage driving events, will again host Bram Chardon, 2024 World Cup Title Winner of Carriage Driving, who will be teaching out of the new arena. And in August, Australia will defend its title against England in the Zilco Ashes.

What an exciting year 2024 will be for Southern Highlands carriage drivers.

To celebrate the milestone of the arena construction, a Grand Opening will be staged in the Multi-disciplinary Arena which will include a giant ribbon cutting, carriage driving demonstrations, music, food and more – all at 145 Quarry Road, Bundanoon.
