Nhill caught in crime sweep

Recent stories

In a major nationwide operation against organised crime and illicit tobacco, Australian police have arrested 25 individuals and executed multiple search warrants across several states, including Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. The focus was on disrupting the activities of the Comanchero and Finks Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCGs).

As part of this extensive crackdown, Nhill was included in the operation. The coordinated effort, led by Taskforce Lunar, aimed to dismantle organised crime syndicates involved in the illicit tobacco trade. In Victoria alone, significant operational activities were carried out against the Finks OMCG, an integral part of the syndicate.

Yesterday, the Echo Taskforce, focusing on firearms offences, served Firearm Prohibition Orders on Finks OMCG members. This resulted in the seizure of steroids and firearms. Meanwhile, in Southbank and Lucknow, police seized cocaine, steroids, cannabis, and knuckle dusters. Several individuals from these locations face charges related to drug and weapons offences.

The VIPER Taskforce, targeting illicit tobacco trade, conducted searches in western Victoria, including Nhill. Over 134,000 illegal cigarettes, loose tobacco, and vapes, valued at over $350,000, were confiscated. The operation’s reach extended to several tobacco stores, underscoring the widespread nature of this illicit trade.

This operation is part of a larger investigation into the criminal syndicates, believed to be a coalition of Middle Eastern Organised Crime groups and OMCGs, including the Finks. The syndicates are reportedly in conflict over the lucrative illicit tobacco market, leading to a series of incidents including arsons.

The ongoing investigation by Taskforce Lunar, supported by multiple specialised units, reflects a concerted effort to curb organised crime and protect communities. As investigations continue, police encourage anyone with information, especially store owners and staff, to come forward and assist in this significant law enforcement initiative.
