Our Elders’ Yarn Up group happens once a month, with Elders coming in to express their concerns and their love for children and families.
Out of these yarns, we hear stories that we can take on board and work with our stakeholders to see if we can support our elders and some of the issues they face.
However, our Elders also get to have lots of fun out their Yarn Up group. Last week, Marlungku-Kari Child & Family Centre celebrated its last Elder’s Yarn Up meet for the year.
With lots of songs, dancing, food and cake, the Elders gathered early Thursday morning, greeted with songs, which were sung in Warumungu language by the preschool children and Family as First Teachers (FaFT) families and their fabulous Teachers Miss Michaela and Miss Debbie.
With the support of the Primary school, all elders were handed a handmade Christmas card, and in return, the Elders gifted all children with a book.
Marlungku-Kari Child & Family Centre wouldn’t not have been able to hold this thoughtful end of year party without the amazing support of CatholicCare NT, FaFT, TC Preschool, Member for Barkly Steve Edgington and his family and our committed Jijjikari Café team – who cater each lunch.
