The Grafton Model Aircraft Club is hosting its annual flying weekend on November 26 and 27, and they are cordially inviting Clarence Valley residents, and visitors in the region, to journey to the Tancreds Lane Flying Field at Clarenza, for two days of spectacular aerobatics and flying demonstrations.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about model aircrafts and get up close with some phenomenal displays, including a scaled down version of a jet turbine engine, capable of reaching a top speed of 550km/h, and a 5m self-powered glider.

Secretary of the Grafton Model Aircraft Club Daryl Woolfe said the upcoming event will also allow visitors the unique chance to experience the thrill of the sport, and speak with local hobbyists and learn about their impressive models.

“It’s an event we try and do at least once a year, and hopefully if we get some good flying weather, we’ll get another good turnout on the weekend,” he said.

“There will be a lot of Bixler’s, which are good hand launch models, gliders, and there will also be training planes available if anyone wants to have a go at flying.

“Everyone is welcome to come along, there is no entrance fee, and there will also be a sausage sizzle and cold drinks available as well.

“All you will need to bring is a good hat, your sunnies, slap on some sunscreen, and you’ll have a great time.”

Mr Woolfe said membership forms and information packages will also be available if anyone would like to join the Grafton Model Aircraft Club, adding new members are always welcome.

Flying demonstrations will begin from 7am on both November 26 and 27, and continue until mid-to-late afternoon, depending on conditions.
