The 2022 Australian Federal Election is over, with voters waking Sunday morning to a sea of red with a dash of green and teal.
The Liberal Coalition has been ousted with an enthusiastic Anthony Albanese led Labor Party set to take charge of the nation.
Local electorates of Mallee and Farrer have resisted the urge for change, retaining the Nationals member, Anne Webster, for Mallee and Sussan Ley for Farrer, who both find themselves in opposition. Little is known of what the future holds for our agriculture, forestry, irrigation and rivers with the change of government.
In Mallee, 75% of the 120,339 eligible voters turned out and Farrer saw a 77.63% turnout of the 119,364 eligible voters.
The National’s Anne Webster secured 42,447 or 49.82% of the Mallee votes.
The Liberal’s Sussan Ley secured 45,720 or 53.30% of the Farrer votes.
Eligible political parties and candidates will be able to claim $2.914 per eligible vote for this year’s election, providing they achieved more than four per cent of the primary vote. The AEC distributes the money to reimburse candidates and parties for the electoral expenditure.
Below is a chart of how the local polling booths shaped up.
