Plans for a boarding school for Tennant Creek have been boosted by a $6.3 million funding announcement in this week’s Federal Budget.

Education Minister Lauren Moss said it was great to see the Federal Government coming on board with the funding, which is part of the Barkly Regional Deal.

The funding is in addition to a standing $9.2 million Federal Government investment and a $3 million contribution from the NT Government.

Education Minister Lauren Moss told Parliament this week the boarding school was one of a range of education options for secondary students and would allow more students from across the Barkly to attend school in Tennant Creek.

“It means they can stay in the region without having to go interstate or to Alice or Darwin to continue their education,” she said.

The boarding school facility is well advanced with the design brief, site services assessment and costings complete.

Minister Moss said it was great to see the Federal Government coming on board with the funding, which is part of the Barkly Regional Deal.

The project is on top of other education infrastructure investments in Tennant Creek that provide students with flexible learning options.

These include the $2 million facility for the Tennant Creek High School’s Clontarf Academy and Stars Foundation; as well as new accommodation and improved equine facilities at Juno worth $1.6 million.
