The architect who designed the Lord Howe Island Museum, Michael Tomaszewski (and his two daughters) recently paid a visit the Island museum he designed in the late 1990s. Mike has been a fairly regular visitor to the Island over the past 20 years, often crewing in the now discontinued Gosford-Lord Howe yacht race.
Not many people will recall, but Mike actually prepared three designs for the Museum, the first one about the mid 1990s. The first two designs were not accepted by the Board, but the third one was approved and resulted in today’s Museum.
Interestingly, Mike’s very first assignment as a newly graduated architect was to design the Island’s Anglican Church, which was constructed in 1959-60 and is still in use today.
