The first Murray cod eggs of the season were collected from nesting boxes in the broodstock ponds at DPI’s Narrandera Fisheries Centre.
The nesting boxes were put into the ponds in late August with hatchery staff checking for eggs from late September.
Once the eggs have been laid the whole nesting box is bought back to the hatchery and placed in specialised incubation tanks where they take around two weeks to hatch.
This is the first step in the process of producing around half a million Murray cod that will be stocked into NSW waters this season.
