Michelle Whiley, Bedgerabong Picnic Race Club Secretary, filed this report of a successful event held on Saturday 13 February 2021:

After a sceptical start, 24mls on the track overnight and a very tense track inspection, we were declared able to race.

The track was rated a soft 7 in really good order with no wet patches. The jockeys praised the committee on being able to maintain a track in such good condition for just one race meeting a year.

About 1700 people attended with the weather being a perfect 28- 29 degrees with a  light breeze. Marquees were spread right along the track with plenty of room for everyone to spread out.

All the races were run with no incidents and the track did not chop up at all.

Fashions on the Field were highly contended.

After the last race the remaining crowd were entertained by Josh Maynard who was sensational, and we would love to have him back next year.

The Bedgerabong Picnic Race Club Cup, sponsored by Western Tree Care, was presented in conjunction with the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack who attended the day.

We had some special presentations, the Most Successful Jockey, Maddison Wright receiving the Stuart Brown Memorial Cup from Stuart’s Family.

Our new Life Member, Maree Hodges. Maree is responsible for the beautiful gardens at Bedgerabong Picnic Race Course, clean facilities and the President Tents Luncheon. The garden is something Maree tends to all year around and this has been particularly challenging in the last few years of drought.

Also this year we honoured our dedicated race caller, Col Hodges, who has been calling races for 50 years. Col is one of our biggest advocates and loves the Bedgerabong Picnic Race Day. He will now call from his very own tower – it’s been named the Col Hodges Calling Tower.
