Winning sky photos exhibition coming to the Gannawarra
Residents will be able to view the works from some of Australia’s top astrophotographers when a travelling exhibition will be based at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library this June and July. Presented by the Central West Astronomical Society, the Museum of Applied Arts and Science and the CSIRO, the 2020 David Malin Awards Winning Sky Photos Exhibition features the top entries from this renowned astrophotography exhibition.
Live and local! Music program to deliver boost to homegrown industry

Music icon rapt to be returning to remote Cape
Troy Cassar-Daley says he’ll have “a whole lot of fun” when he tours remote Cape York communities early next month. The country music star was booked to perform at the Cooktown Expo and has been able to add shows at Aurukun, Coen, Mapoon and Pormpuraaw while in the Far North. He’ll perform with The Black Image Band, made up of the Harrigan brothers from Wujal Wujal.
Chinatown’s multicultural heritage and stunning environment showcased in public art
As Stage Two of the Chinatown Revitalisation Project progresses, the Broome community will start to see the installation of several public artworks to enliven the streets of our town. The Shire of Broome has worked closely with community representatives and local Broome artists to integrate over a dozen artworks into the historic Chinatown precinct, inspired by the rich heritage and culture of Broome.
Exhibition works highlights Australia’s water crisis
An art exhibition addressing the intensifying crisis of Australia’s diminishing water supply will be launched at Nyinkka Nyunyu Arts and Cultural Centre on Saturday 15 May. Groundswell: Recent Movements in Art and Territory is an Artback NT project and will feature works by Northern Territory artists and also regional artists from Epenarra and Tennant Creek.

Jack sketch returns
Kirstin Nicholson. A sketch of the Koondrook township has been gifted to the Barham Koondrook Historical Society (BKHS). The sketch, a pen line drawing by renowned Australian artist, Kenneth Jack, was presented to the society by Ken Guskich on Wednesday, May 5 ... The artist, Kenneth Jack, was born in 1924 and spent his life painting, drawing and exhibiting across Australia and around the world.

From higher-than-expected visitor numbers, increased artist participation and record sales – the 2021 Kangaroo Island Easter Art Exhibition has been an extraordinary triumph. A steady stream of visitors admired more than 200 works from 90 artists during the 16-day event which began with an exclusive Opening Night on Good Friday.
Riverdance
A stunning projection on the waters of the Murrumbidgee River was the backdrop for an historic meeting of the Wiradjuri and Barkandji nations with Narrandera residents to return native fingerlings to the southern Murray Darling basin ... The culturally significant event was filmed by the National Museum of Australia. It was pre-empted by the historic fish kill in the Menindee on Barkindji Country in December 2018 and January 2019, with an estimated one million dead fish in the Barka/Darling River.

Entertainment taken to Town Camps in new school holiday program initiative
As a part of the School Holiday Program, local band The Last Resort has been performing series of gigs at different Town Camps each evening. Intended to help keep the kids off the streets, the gigs have been well attended by families and supported by Elders and community organisations.

MAC Collection the focus of documentary film by renowned film director
The Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) will host the premiere screening of a new documentary film inspired by the internationally recognised MAC Collection this month. An Improbable Collection is the work of renowned film director Bruce Beresford and photographer Cordelia Beresford and will been screened in the MAC Theatre at 7:30pm on Saturday 17 April. The film focuses on the colourful careers of artists Sir William Orpen and Sir Frank Brangwyn, whose works Bruce saw for the first time in London in the 1970s.

Northern Rivers' musicians and artists are invited to put their talents and imagination to the test in a new initiative set to deliver a lot of fun and some truly original works ... Northern Rivers Conservatorium’s Resident Creative Artist, Sean O’Boyle AM said he wanted to create an annual event that tapped into the wealth of artistic talent in the Northern Rivers and inspired creativity. “The Iron Creative will encourage ingenuity, originality, innovation, teamwork and artistry,” he said.

Beauty emerges from the ashes of the Kangaroo Island bushfires
Devastating Kangaroo Island bushfires elicit inspiration from incredible survivor and local artist, Caroline Taylor ... Caroline is exhibiting two oil paintings “5.46pm Twentieth December 2019” and “Shelter in the Aftermath” in the highly-regarded Kangaroo Island Easter Art Exhibition which begins on April 2. The inspiration for both pieces is Caroline’s remarkable and devastatingly close brush with death during two separate infernos in December 2019 and January 2020.
Water tower mural design sparks community outrage
A bitter stoush has erupted over a proposed water tower mural at Yerong Creek with the community labelling the art work as garish and cartoonish. A deputation to Lockhart Shire Council’s March meeting pleaded for a replacement design, with their petition of 100 signatures and suggestions passed on to a selection committee and a decision was due to be made this week. Residents were “insulted and angry” over the short consultation time frame on a design already endorsed by Council.
