Illuminate to light up Tumby Bay, 13-21 August 2021

Groundbreaking festival Illuminate has come to South Australia for the first time and Tumby Bay is excited to be one of just a few regional centres picked to host installations after the Adelaide events.

Running Up a Dress

Lismore Theatre Company is pleased to announce its next show, Running Up a Dress will be on stage September 10-19. Written in 1986, Running up a Dress, is a play about mothers and daughters, a relationship that shapes young women. The play, written by Suzanne Spunner, originally intended to be performed by two actors, will feature an ensemble cast.

Orchestra highlight for Tennant kids

The gladrags were dusted off on Saturday night for Oz Opera’s performance of Bizet’s Carmen at the Civic Hall. Five local children had the amazing opportunity to take part in the event, performing two songs in French and impressing everyone with their acting abilities.

The trick to becoming an author

Former Naracoorte High scholar Linda Cawley (nee Stanford) has written a children’s book called The Trick with Sticks. It is cleverly written in a Dr. Seuss style to help children and their parents with their child’s friendships. We all know how friendships can be tricky, so the book explores the bonds of friendship and how those bonds are formed.

From award-winning author and historian Janet McCalman, the engrossing tale of Tasmanian convict settlers in colonial Victoria. It was meant to be 'Victoria the Free', uncontaminated by the Convict Stain. Yet they came in their tens of thousands as soon as they were cut free or able to bolt. More than half of all those transported to Van Diemen's Land as convicts would one day settle or spend time in Victoria.

New release – Comprehensive history of Northern Snowy Mountains

Dr David Lindley’s long anticipated history of the Northern Snowy Mountains was launched by the Mayor of Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council, Abb McAlister on 24 June to a packed crowd at Gundagai Library. The book is in two volumes, with Volume 1 covering the exploration of the mountains from Long Plain to Goobarragandra with a comprehensive description of the many gold mines and gold mining ventures in the region. Volume 2 examines grazing, timber-milling, eucalyptus oil distillation, fishing and other recreational activities.

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the City of Sandhurst

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of the City of Sandhurst. Now known as Bendigo, the Borough of Sandhurst was formally declared a City on July 21, 1871 in the Victorian Government Gazette. To acknowledge this occasion and pay tribute to the many generations of civic leaders who have contributed to the city over that time, the City of Greater Bendigo has unveiled a plaque and a collection of Mayoress portraits in the Bendigo Town Hall Council Chamber.

Review – Flames of Rebellion

The opening quotation of Henry Lawson’s ‘Ode to Peter Lalor’ sets the tone for what is to come in this rollicking tale set in colonial Australia at the height of the gold rush in the mid nineteenth century. The themes of mateship, danger, struggle against authority and the enticement of that precious metal – gold – are all there.

Alice Springs Street Art Festival set to colour the town, 23 July – 8 August

The streets of Alice Springs will be transformed into an alfresco art gallery when the Alice Springs Street Art Festival (ASSAF) takes place from 23 July to 8 August 2021. The festival will see four of Australia’s top street artists Kaff-eine (Vic), Gus Eagleton (Qld), Brontë Naylor (Qld) and Miss Polly (Darwin) team up with local creatives Tamara Cornthwaite, Karine Tremblay, Mark Circus and Kim Donald to paint six new murals across the CBD.
