City of Greater Bendigo, Media Release, 2 August 2021

Bendigo Art Gallery is proud to present an exhibition exploring the important role of drawing in the work of one of Australia’s most prominent artists.

Brett Whitely: Drawing is Everything features over 110 works, including rarely-seen early images of Sydney and Europe, that brought Brett Whiteley international fame in the 1960s.

Whiteley’s drawings frequently underpinned his research and preparation for paintings, and the exhibition presents several important paintings that are from the time period or relate to the drawings.

The exhibition takes us on a journey from the artist’s early studies in London through the decades via the cities, landscapes and people that captured his imagination and left their mark on his work.

The exhibition has travelled from the Art Gallery of NSW and runs until October 31, 2021.
