The gladrags were dusted off on Saturday night for Oz Opera’s performance of Bizet’s Carmen at the Civic Hall.
Five local children – Nicole Konedaris, Reegan Piper, Grace McLaughlin, Kamryn Piper and Kirra Carse – had the amazing opportunity to take part in the event, performing two songs in French and impressing everyone with their acting abilities.
Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin said it was fantastic to have a world-class professional opera in Tennant Creek, not to mention the town’s own star-studded world class artists adding to the flavour.
“A big shout out to Barkly Regional Arts and Barkly Regional Council for hosting an amazing event which ended with a standing ovation,” he said.
The main cast was magnificent, and their voices soared around the Civic Hall with what seemed effortless ease, keeping the audience spellbound unless they were applauding.
Local artists prefaced the performance with Brendan Hines and Mayor Jeffrey McLaughlin performing a number, and Elliott father-and-daughter-duo Rayella wowing everyone with their piece.
