The Nhill Coastbusters hosted a successful event on Sunday, 11th August, as part of their Coastrek walk to raise funds for the Heart Foundation. The event featured locally grown foods and talents, with Chef Cat Clarke from Dimboola providing delicious meals to all attendees—an exciting first for many.
This year, the Nhill Coastbusters have raised a total of $6,000 so far for the Heart Foundation through their Coastrek efforts. The team, comprising Emily Gladdis, Bec Curtis, Holly Beattie, and Meg Hall, will be trekking 20 km in September, supported by their dedicated crew member Sarah White.
The Heart Foundation is committed to improving the health of all Australians by raising awareness of heart disease risk factors, offering support and care to those affected, and providing resources for healthcare professionals. As the largest peak body funder of heart health research in Australia, the Foundation has significantly improved survival rates for those suffering from heart attacks and living with heart disease. However, there is still much work to be done, as coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Australia, claiming 45 lives every day.
Janine Clark and Nicole Schneider also contributed to the event by discussing various heart health topics and offering blood pressure checks throughout the day.
Sarah White shared her gratitude, saying, “We’ve received great positive feedback from our successful fundraiser. It was fantastic to host Cat Clarke and her amazing food in Nhill. A big thank you to our sponsors: Luv A Duck, Ocean Spray, West Wimmera Health Service, Janine Clark, and Nicole Schneider. Thanks also to the Nhill Sporting Club for providing the venue and to bar staff Ash Dickinson and Jeremy Weeks. We appreciate all the support and donations, and we hope to do it again next year.”
