Christmas comes early to Casino with opening of massive emporium

Recent stories

Sue Cramp loves Christmas. Which is just as well because four days ago she opened the Christmas Emporium in Casino.

This is much more than a shop or a warehouse full of Christmas products – it is a Christmas fantasy land.

And Sue is in her element.

The Christmas Emporium was previously located in Lismore but Sue needed more space so she moved the business to Casino.

Sue has been in business for 30 years running florists, gift shops and more. She still has businesses in Lismore.

The Christmas Emporium begins its busy time from July right through until Christmas Day, Sue said.

”I love it, it makes people happy.”

There were plenty of smiles and astonished looks as people came through the door of the gigantic shed on Neville Bienke Memorial Drive, Casino (out near the SES).

From floor to ceiling, Christmas is spread to cover every surface. Sue has crammed in decorations (in colour themes), artificial Christmas tress, lights, toys, tinsel, lamps, clothes and everything Christmas related.

She has a Bah Humbug chair near the entrance for people who have been dragged along and are not that into Christmas. The chair is a good move because this is a place you will want to spend a lot of time – especially if you like Christmas.

Christmas trends come and go and while Sue has created a sage wooodland theme in one of the alcoves, there’s always a display of the traditional red and green decs.

The trend this year is for a circus themed Christmas – and the Grinch is popular too, she said.

Upstairs are the bigger trees in all colours – white, green, pink, black – small ones and huge trees reaching to high ceiling.

Sue is setting up an area for photos with Santa (closer to Christmas) and she is taking emails for people interested in doing Christmas craft workshops.

She plans to have coffee set up for customers by the end of July.

Does she ever get sick of Christmas?

”I enjoy what I do. And I’m confident in what I make,” she said.

Sue creates displays for the table at Christmas and each one tells a different story.

The Christmas Emporium is open Thursday–Sunday at 10am–3pm.
