Club gets back on track

Recent stories

After being closed for the past seven years, a new committee hopes to restore the Khancoban Country Club to its glory days.

The committee is intent on “nursing the club back to health.”

“We want to see it roaring like it did back in the good old days,” said committee member, Charlie Alchin.

The club is currently operating the bar and bistro three days a week and is available for functions as well.

The doors are open on Thursday (3pm to 9pm), Friday (4pm to 10pm) and Saturday 1pm to 9pm. The bistro is open from 6pm to 8pm on these days.

Named ‘The Weston’ the bistro is being run by Benjamin Weston, a young local who moved to Khancoban just over one year ago. While he is relatively new to the town, country runs through his veins coming from ‘the sticks’ of the Cootamundra region.

Ben has a passion for good food and community Club gets back on track and has worked in recreational clubs since he was 14.

“Since a young age I’ve always loved cooking,” he said.

“I remember being 10, hanging out in my family’s kitchen making a cheese cake. Even though I completely messed it up, it sparked a passion in me that I’ve never been able to get rid of.

“Seeing the enjoyment people have while tasting my food has always made me feel complete.”

The new club committee comprises Charlie Alchin, Samii Cowan, Ann DeWit, Shan Elliot, Taffin Foxcrof, Oliver Repetto and Louise Werrett.

While the club premises have been closed, the Khancoban Golf Club has continued to operate during that period thanks to the efforts of a band of volunteers and the country club committee is now working with it to facilitate a joint future.

Membership enquiries are welcome.
