Remembrance Day in Nhill

Recent stories

Nhill’s Remembrance Day Service was held on Saturday, where 50 people gathered. Nhill R.S.L President John Dunbar welcomed those in attendance, honouring those who died serving in conflicts and peace-keeping operations.

Remembrance Day on Saturday marked 105 years since the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I in 1918. John spoke on why we remember on the 11th of November each year and the significance of red poppies. John followed by reading out the poem In Flanders Fields.

Secretary Rhys Webb read out a story about Corporal Daniel Keighran, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the battle of Derapet in Afghanistan.

All in attendance were then offered the opportunity to lay a red poppy on the memorial. The Ode last post and reveille were then played and then all present sang the Australian National Anthem.

At the conclusion, President John thanked all present for attending.

Every year on the 11th of November at 11.00am, Australia pauses to remember all the men and women of the Australian Defence Force who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We will remember them.
