Boyeo Hall 100th celebrations

Recent stories

The Boyeo hall celebrated its 100 Year celebration Sunday with a fantastic crowd coming together to reminisce about the heydays at Boyeo. We had well over 150 people join us for lunch, which was catered for by T & K Catering […], which was a delicious selection of cold meats, savouries, sandwiches and fruit.

Rob Lynch & friends drove out a selection of cars from the early 1920s to remind us of how people would’ve arrived back in 1923 for the opening of the hall.

The guests of honour for the day were Joyce Borgelt, Val Maynard and Geoff Eastick. Don Munro, Lance Dickinson and Max Magrath reminisced on the good old days of Boyeo and the sporting achievements of our sporting legends. Ellis Dart told stories of his days as a kid at Boyeo, and the picnics and fun that they had.

Joyce Borgelt cut the cake which was made by Narelle Dart as an official opening of the day and treated us to a very witty speech regarding her memories of Boyeo.

Families were encouraged to display their family memorabilia inside the hall, and we also had three TVs running with concerts from the opening of the supper room and tree plantation in 1990, the Tarranginnie schools in 1992 and Boyeo Sports Reunion in 1997. These concerts are available on USB and if anybody would like to purchase them for $10.00, please contact Helen Cannell on 0419 829 272.

Thanks to those who donated raffle prizes for the day, which were won by Brenda Robinson, Maryanne Hicks, Lyn Taylor, Brian Farmers, Russell Borgelt, Lisa Braybrook, Colin Merrett and Hanna Cannell.

Thank you to Rod Stanford for being the MC for the day and Brian and Simon Farmers for organising the PA and sound for the day.

Thanks to Don Munro who has installed the new Former Boyeo Resident Plantation sign and replaced all the red gum posts that had rotted with cement and steel posts and polished the plaques and added new family names to existing plaques. All families enjoyed being able to find their family “tree” and reminiscing about the tree planting in 1990.

The Boyeo Recreation Reserve and Hall committee president Tyson Dickinson said “I would like to thank our dedicated committee and everyone else who helped to make this day such a success. Without the vision and passion of our committee members, this event wouldn’t have been able to go ahead and we thank all that made this day possible.”
