Heating and cooling system for Kaniva Shire Hall

Recent stories

The historic Kaniva Shire Hall can now offer increased comfort and functionality with the installation of a new heating and cooling system.

This marks a significant milestone for the building, as the hall previously lacked any heating or cooling provisions, limiting its usability during extreme weather conditions.

The Kaniva Shire Hall was officially opened in 1929 and is renowned for its unique architectural features, including a rare cameo ceiling.

As one of only two public buildings in Victoria to showcase this distinctive ceiling design, the hall holds great significance not only to the town but also to the state’s architectural heritage.

With careful consideration to preserving the hall’s heritage features, the installation of six heating and cooling units has been completed within the main hall.

These units operate seamlessly through a central control panel, effectively maintaining a comfortable temperature without compromising the building’s intrinsic charm.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said the introduction of this modern system would greatly benefit all the hall’s users.

“We are thrilled to bring this much-needed enhancement to the Kaniva Shire Hall,” he said.

“Our goal was to strike a harmonious balance between modern comfort and preserving the historical integrity of this iconic building.

“The new heating and cooling system will undoubtedly make the hall a more inviting and functional space for a wide range of community events and gatherings.

“The investment underlines Council’s commitment to ensuring that the hall continues to serve as a vital gathering place for generations to come.”

Council funded the project under its building improvements program.
