Tennant Creek’s own young, achieving finalist

Recent stories

Most people in town would be familiar with the huge personality and smiling face that is Amy James and see her frequently at events like Do it for Dolly, RU OK, and Women’s Health Week events.

What some may not know is that Amy’s contributions have earned her a nomination for the NT Young Achiever Awards in the Somerville Community Service Award People’s Choice category and this week found out that she is a finalist for the award to be announced on 14 April.

“I was surprised and shocked to be nominated,” said Amy.

“And I am over the moon to make the finals. The 25-year-old, who was born with cerebral palsy, has not let that stand in the way of her desire to help others or slow her down, and has been doing her volunteer work for some time and is currently on the Women with Disabilities Advisory as well as the NT Disability Advisory Committee. In the little spare time she has she also enjoys singing as well as writing songs. Amy encourages women, with or without disabilities to, in her words “do what you can, don’t give up and follow your heart and your dreams.”

We wish Amy the best of luck at the awards ceremony and since her birthday falls two days after, let us hope that she gets an early birthday present.
