Paragliders enjoy world class facilities

Recent stories

After a delayed start due to the weather, this year’s annual Corryong Paragliding Open was completed with two days of exciting competition flying.

The event is a round of the national championships and uses the launch site on Mt Elliot. It attracted more than 80 national and international participants who waited for clear skies and light winds which eventually came on Tuesday and Wednesday.

All pilots enjoyed great conditions for the two days until the weather unfortunately turned wet and windy again but despite this the competition produced a winner – Wally Arcidiacono from Bright who is also the chief instructor for the local school, BrightFlight.

“All pilots enjoyed their time in Corryong and are thankful to the town for the friendly reception they always receive,” said organiser, Dave Gibbs.

“In return, we held a raffle and raised $710 for the local SES unit.

“One day we hope to hold a World Championship here as Mt Elliot is a first class paragliding and hang gliding site but until then we hope to return next year.”
