NAIDOC Survival Day march

Recent stories

Narrandera’s Narrungderra NAIDOC March down East Street on Sunday was joined by participants of all ages, including noted Aboriginal personality Stan Grant Junior.

Mr Grant’s parent Stan senior and Betty Grant reside in Narrandera.

The march moved to the Memorial Gardens in East Street where a smoking ceremony and other activities took place.

Ileah and Ikeah Williams’ grandchildren of NAIDOC member Raylene Williams received a gift for standing up and doing Welcome to Country in language, making their grandmother proud.

Racheal Williams also received a gift for regularly getting up and doing Welcome to Country at NAIDOC events.

The NAIDOC Committee presented a gift to Dinnawans Connection for their support in always showing up and bringing more cultural practices and connections throughout events.

A further gift was presented to Narrandera Shire Councillor Braden Lyons who is the first and youngest Koori to sit on the Narrandera Shire Council and always shows great leadership as well as helping at NAIDOC events.

The gift everyone received was an artwork supplied by local Wiradjuri man Mark Flack. His artwork was the theme for Survival Day 23′ and depicts his family members sitting around the campfire.

Mark’s artwork was reproduced to be used as gifts, placed on promotional flyers and on the banner that will be used for future marches.
