A monthly rainfall record for Wilcannia

Wilcannia: Hottest day was Tuesday 4th at 29.9C, cooler than the hottest ever day in October at 42.4C on the 25th in 2014. The coldest day was Saturday 8th at 18.6C, well above our coldest ever, 13.2C on the 11th in 2012.

Lowest morning temperature was 5.7C, on Monday 10th. The warmest start to the day was on Monday 31st at 18.1C. Mean daily temperature was 24.9C, below the long term mean of 27.5C.

Rain for the month, recorded at the Airport, was 207.6 mm, setting a new record. The previous highest ever monthly rain for October was in 1894 when 126.4mm fell.

The long term average for October is 24.8mm. Rain for the year is 590.1mm, creeping up on the wettest year on record 1956 at 680.2mm recorded at the weather station in Reid Street.

The long term annual average is 265.6mm The wettest day was Thursday 20th at 39.8, half that of the long term record set on the 25th in 1894 when 88.4mm was received. Rain was recorded on 14 days of the month compared to the mean of 4 days. Windiest day was Sunday 23rd at 59km/h from the west.

White Cliffs: Hottest day was Thursday 6th at 30.2C, below the hottest ever October day of 41.7C on the 31st in 1965. The coldest day was Saturday 8th at 17.7C, above the coldest ever on the 6th in 1966 at 12.2C. Lowest morning temperature was 7.1C on Sunday 49h, a long way from the record of 2.0C on the 4th in 1976.

The warmest start to the day was Thursday 13th at 19.3C, below the record of 26.1C on the 30th in 1966. Mean daily temperature was 25.4C, below the long term average of 27.9C.

Rain for the month was 114.6mm, above the long term average of 23.1 mm. Rain for the year is 337.2 mm, compared to the long term mean of 250.1mm.

Highest ever monthly rain for October was 1973 when 120.9mm fell, and the highest daily rain was in 1959, 68.5mm on the 9th. White Cliff’s wettest year was 1974 at 721.2mm. Windiest day as Sunday 23rd, 85km/h from the west-north-west.
