Former junior cricket club distributes unused funds

Recent stories

The past committee of the former Yanchep Redhawks Junior Cricket Club has recently agreed to distribute its unused funding to support local junior sporting clubs in Yanchep and Eglington.

Former Yanchep Redhawks Junior Cricket Club (YRJCC) president Robert Murphy said times were tough for many families and they had decided that now would be a timely opportunity to put the funds to good use.

“Sport is such a valuable part of any community especially in these times of financial uncertainty that affect many people and sporting clubs,’’ he said.

The YRJCC will be donating to the Dolphins Little Athletics, Yanchep Netball Club, Yanchep Redhawks Junior Football Club and Eglington Junior Cricket Club.

Each club will receive a donation of $1000.

The YRJCC sadly ceased in 2012 when it became difficult to find volunteers to take over the important committee roles required to operate the club.

Mr Murphy said parental involvement in junior sport was vital.

“It is a big commitment, but the rewards are also big.

“The then committee’s children were all moving into adult sport and we needed to move on with them.’’

Many of the junior cricketers went on to play for both the senior Redhawks cricket and football clubs.

Because of this connection the YRJCC will also be donating $1000 to each of these clubs for their breast cancer fundraising events.
