Rebecca Liebelt appeared in Tennant Creek Local Court Tuesday charged with stealing, obtaining benefit by a deception and money laundering.

It was just two days later her husband Greg appeared on similar charges, except on an upgraded charge of aggravated stealing.

A spokesperson for Australia Post assured Barkly residents there would be no impact to services at the local post office.

“Australia Post’s licensed post offices are an important part of our network and there are clear obligations, guidelines and policies that Licensees agree to when they join our network,” he said.

The accused pair appeared in court briefly and both cases were adjourned until 21 June. No pleas were entered.

They were required to hand in their passports and Mrs Liebelt ordered not to leave Tennant Creek as part of the bail conditions.

Mr Liebelt applied to vary his bail conditions to travel within the Northern Territory due to work commitments, however will need to report his movements to the officer in charge at the local police station.
