Bike club tracks well with new trails

Fiona Kerwin. It has been a busy 12 months for Kyogle Mountain Bike Club. Three trails have been added to the network, two others were refurbished and a pump track was built in Anzac Park – thanks to two grants from Kyogle Council. The increase to the trail network made it possible for the club to host events.

Country teams come out tops at State district mixed pairs

It was always going to be a tough challenge to take the title from the Gold Coast-Tweed District, after 2019’s winners mother-son pair of Jackie McWhinney and Dale McWhinney-Shillington replaced fellow district winners Dee Anne Robertson and Sean Ingham at the top of the leader board. Robertson and Ingham held the top spot for 2017 and 2018. Dee Anne Robertson was back this year, this time pairing with Chris Le Lievre. The question on everyone’s lips was, “would Gold Coast-Tweed take it for the fourth year running?”

Hitting Wall art project nears completion at Memorial Park Tennis Complex in Bordertown

The hitting wall at  Memorial Park Tennis Complex  in Bordertown is undergoing a makeover as part of a nationwide Hitting Wall Project. The Hitting Wall Project, launched in collaboration with Tennis Australia, will see hitting walls revamped across the country as part of an initiative designed to increase community participation in tennis off the back of soaring participation in 2020/21.

Local forest closures and watering have also hindered social riding of motorcycles, making the Koondrook Ride Park the place to be last weekend.

Tennis SA has announced the introduction of the  Tennis SA State League All Stars, set to launch the 2021/22 Tennis SA State League season ... The state’s highest level competition will visit regional South Australia for the first time, with eight Tennis SA State League players to join six local tennis players to make two teams for the match.

Junior Cougars on the rise

Congratulations, Casino Cougars. The junior outfit has been named the NSW Rugby League Grassroots Club of the Year. The club has grown from 130 players in 2012 to 340 in 2021.

Women’s Northern Challenge

Lesley Bates. As with many events last year, the Women’s Northern Challenge scheduled for Ingham was cancelled. Fortunately, the 2021 event of three days was contested in mid-July by four teams from the Tropical Far North Queensland, Mackay and North Queensland Districts in what was previously called the 5D Shield.

Wallabies arrive in North Queensland ahead of first test in Townsville

Wallabies assistant coach Dan McKellar has spoken from Townsville. The side were given an official welcome to country upon arrival in Townsville this afternoon ahead of their eToro Rugby Championship Test against Argentina on Saturday night. McKellar grew up in North Queensland and went to school in Townsville.

Softball success for combined team

Pam Dillon. Four schools came together to battle it out on the soft-ball field in Tennant Creek for the Annual Barkly Region Central Softball Cup ... As all teams had won a game, a countback of runs for and against had to be done to decide who was going to play in the grand final.

Tell us about: parkrun

Kirstin Nicholson. Regardless of the weather, runners and walkers can be seen pounding the paths of Garden and Gilrule Parks in Cohuna every Saturday morning. They are part of a global organisation called parkrun. parkrun is a free, timed 5km event held every Saturday morning, not just in Cohuna, but all over the world, originating in England in 2004. Runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels are welcome and it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are.

Classic craft part of the show

Denmark's first Classic Boat Show will run alongside the Great Southern Classic Car Show with the boats on the Denmark River at Berridge Park on Sunday, September 26 from 10am-3pm. The classic boats on show will range from some built in the 1920s to retro boats built recently.

The Casino RSM Redbacks Cricket Club is looking for cricketers of all ages and experience to play in the Casino and Lismore competition. Family combinations are encouraged, as well as those who have previously retired from the game but would like to play again.
