The 2021/22 Tennis SA State League season has been officially launched by the  Tennis SA State League All Stars  on the Eyre Peninsula ... The state’s highest level competition visited regional South Australia for the first time, with eight Tennis SA State League players joining six local tennis players to create Team Red and Team Blue.

Outback Lifesavers are back!

The overwhelming success of the State’s first Outback Lifesaver program last summer will see the concept return to Wagga Wagga early next year. Wagga Wagga City Council and Royal Life Saving NSW will again partner in the delivery of the program which gives youngsters the chance to learn lifesaving water safety skills at pools and inland waterways.

Olympians pitch in for the Pony Club Australia Virtual National Championships

On returning from Tokyo, some of Australia’s top equestrian Olympians have pitched in to help Pony Club Australia with their Virtual National Championships this year. Andrew Hoy, Shane Rose and Kevin McNab took time out of their schedules to record questions for the National Quiz competition. All the Olympians were Pony Club alumni (past members) who have previously shared their enjoyment and knowledge gained from their Pony Club years. Atlanta gold medallist Wendy Schaeffer, who rode her Pony Club horse at the Olympics, also contributed questions.

Fears about future of town’s only gym

News that Tennant Creek’s only gym is set to close at the end of the year has local fitness and wellbeing fans up in arms. Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation’s Sports and Recreation Centre announced it will shut its doors permanently on 24 December ... “Anyinginyi has been at the heart of sport and recreation in Tennant Creek for most of its 37-year history”: CEO Barb Shaw.

Bike club tracks well with new trails

Three trails have been added to the network, two others were refurbished and a pump track was built in Anzac Park – thanks to two grants from Kyogle Council. The increase to the trail network made it possible for the club to host events.

Country teams come out tops at State district mixed pairs

It was always going to be a tough challenge to take the title from the Gold Coast-Tweed District, after 2019’s winners mother-son pair of Jackie McWhinney and Dale McWhinney-Shillington replaced fellow district winners Dee Anne Robertson and Sean Ingham at the top of the leader board. Robertson and Ingham held the top spot for 2017 and 2018. Dee Anne Robertson was back this year, this time pairing with Chris Le Lievre. The question on everyone’s lips was, “would Gold Coast-Tweed take it for the fourth year running?”

Hitting Wall art project nears completion at Memorial Park Tennis Complex in Bordertown

The hitting wall at  Memorial Park Tennis Complex  in Bordertown is undergoing a makeover as part of a nationwide Hitting Wall Project. The Hitting Wall Project, launched in collaboration with Tennis Australia, will see hitting walls revamped across the country as part of an initiative designed to increase community participation in tennis off the back of soaring participation in 2020/21.

Junior Cougars on the rise

Congratulations, Casino Cougars. The junior outfit has been named the NSW Rugby League Grassroots Club of the Year. The club has grown from 130 players in 2012 to 340 in 2021.

Women’s Northern Challenge

Lesley Bates. As with many events last year, the Women’s Northern Challenge scheduled for Ingham was cancelled. Fortunately, the 2021 event of three days was contested in mid-July by four teams from the Tropical Far North Queensland, Mackay and North Queensland Districts in what was previously called the 5D Shield.
