Xavier Wishart spent a week of his school holidays in Hobart – but he didn’t have much time to see the sights – he was there for the Under 17 National Championships of cricket. The championships were held at several locations across Hobart from January 16 to 23 with teams playing six matches.

Pam Dillon. Two days of various multi sports had the students laughing, smiling and shouting for joy. The sessions conducted were aimed at developing skills for different year levels ... Students in Years 4 to 6 worked focused on improving their skills and experimented with cricket and paddle tennis bats using various types of balls.

Kendall Jennings. It has been a challenging start to the 2022/23 cricket season for the Murray Raiders Under 16s. Road closures have made it difficult for the team and players to participate in the Swan Hill Cricket Association matches.

Don’t be fooled by their age because some of Australia’s most elite cricketers are out to prove they can “knock ‘em for six” when they converge on the Barossa for the Veterans Cricket Australia Over 50s Cricket Championships. From 20 November, 42 teams across 5 Divisions will play four games over five days on South Australia’s finest turf wickets with Tanunda, Angaston and Greenock included among the venues outside the metropolitan area.

The past committee of the former Yanchep Redhawks Junior Cricket Club has recently agreed to distribute its unused funding to support local junior sporting clubs in Yanchep and Eglington ... Kendall Jennings. The second day of the SHDCA Under 16s held at Murrabit on Friday evening, February 18, was a nail biter. The Murray Raiders entered day two with a two-run lead. However, Wandella’s third batsman, and captain, Bohden McKnight, was strong at the crease, making 74 runs before retiring (not out), a vital batsman for Wandella. Harvey Macri (2) and Thomas Graedy (1) were not out. After 40 overs, Wandella eight for 161.

Kirstin Nicholson. Two local cricket stalwarts have been honoured with a new annual shield. Bruce Milthorpe from Cohuna and George Keath from Leitchville have been recognised for the many years of dedication and work they have put into their local cricket clubs.

Jeff Hanson. In their first season in the Ardlethan Barellan District Cricket Association (ABDCA) competition, the Narrandera Carpheads will be playing for silverware on Saturday, with the in-form side heading towards the T20 Harvest Break grand final. The Carpheads, who finished second after losing just one game during the six-round regular season, will take on the top of the table Coolamon Rovers for grand final glory.

Moulamein was graced by fishing royalty at the weekend. Merv Hughes, former Australian cricketer and host of Merv’s Fishing, accompanied by Squizzy Taylor, was on the water filming in the region with the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder and Department of Primary Industry and Investment to showcase the benefits of environmental water.

Kendall Jennings. Local doctor, Tharindu Uyanage, will be missed at the hospital and the cricket field. Yet, he has left the pitch in style, collecting the highest batting score against Kerang with 39 runs, capturing 3 wickets from his 7 overs and 5 balls, and taking a catch in the field.

Charlie Legoe. Naracoorte played North Sportsman’s in Round 3 of the South East Women’s competition. Naracoorte won the toss and opted to bowl first and with a clever run out off the 2nd ball, things were looking good.

The Imparja Cup will draw Aboriginal cricketers to Alice Springs to celebrate cricket, country and culture from 13-18 February 2022. The format of the 2022 tournament will be consistent with previous Imparja Cup events.

Narrandera Carpheads stalwart Brodie Perram is anticipating his side can give the Ardlethan/Barellan cricket competition a shake as they prepare for their round one bout against Kamarah ... Perram himself is a tough bowler to come up against. He is aiming for 20 to 25 wickets for the season, a goal he says is consistent with his past performances.

Claire Rankin. The Evans Head Hammerheads club’s Tracey Bodley said the club needed up to 10 cricketers to meet a shortfall caused by players moving away for work and other reasons ... The Casino RSM Redbacks Cricket Club is looking for cricketers of all ages and experience to play in the Casino and Lismore competition. Family combinations are encouraged, as well as those who have previously retired from the game but would like to play again.

Kendall Jennings. Mawson's T20 Blast Cricket third round was held on Thursday, February 4. Wandella hosted Barham/ Koondrook at Riverside Park in Kerang. Entering round three, the two top teams on equal points on the ladder faced off. Playing conditions were challenging with storm clouds looming and northerly twenty-kilometre winds. The white playing ball was challenging to focus on in the sky, making way for on-field action with close runouts and dropped catches.
