Dry weather changes plans

The planned Gardens of the Downs tour for Greenmount and Vale View has been altered due to the lack of rain. The three gardens at Greenmount will no longer be open for viewing, although the garden of Tonia and Paul Grundy at Vale View will still be open ... Ponder life next to the raked dry garden bed or delight in the small waterfall and stream that flows to a scenic pond with water lilies in bloom.

Act of kindness times 50 restores flooded prize winning garden

HOPE investigating potential vegetable gardening opportunities for socially disadvantaged

Householders’ Options to Protect the Environment (HOPE) has been investigating opportunities for people to access under-utilised suburban backyards, especially for those who are unable to garden in rental properties. HOPE president Frank Ondrus said there are many people who own their own homes but who do not or cannot use the space they have for gardening. "It is our hope that with your support we will be able to offer space to people who wish to produce food for their own tables," he said.

The garden produces fruit and vegetables, which are used by the members, and the excess is dried, used for chutneys, fed to the chooks and/or donated to community groups.
