Get up and about after gap

Recent stories

The Corryong Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) is very excited with the return of the Upper Murray Garden Getabout which is only one week away.

After a five-year break – there will be nine gardens in and around Corryong opening for visitors on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November from 10am to 5pm.

Michelle Collins and Thea Newton have been the key drivers behind the Garden Getabout since its inception in 2012 and it is thanks to their determination and dedication that this event is back on the calendar.

Both of their gardens are included again in this year’s event. In fact, all of this year’s gardens have been involved in Garden Getabout at some time before, offering both an absolute treat for new visitors and an opportunity for returning enthusiasts to see how the gardens have changed and evolved over the past five or more years.

Visitors can get an advance peek at the gardens by visiting the Garden Getabout Facebook page and see the enormous amount of work done by all the gardeners. At this time of year, the gardens are constantly changing so there will always be new treasures to find on the weekend. And there is nothing like strolling around the gardens in person, taking in the colours, the smells, the ambience, gathering ideas and inspiration and sharing stories with the garden owners and other visitors.

Passes, maps and details are available from the CNC for $20 (open Monday to Thursday from 10am to 4pm – but not this coming Monday or Tuesday due to the Cup holiday). Passes and maps are also available at the Collins and Newton gardens on the Getabout weekend. Card or cash accepted.

It has been decided not to do single garden passes this time around as many of the gardens are only a short distance apart in Corryong so, even if you only have a couple of hours, you can visit a number of diverse and beautiful gardens.

For those who prefer not to drive themselves, the CNC is offering a bus service on Saturday, leaving the CNC at 10am and visiting seven of the gardens for an additional cost of $5. Bookings are essential and it is recommended to bring your own lunch.

Funds raised from this year’s Garden Getabout will be used to support the CNC’s Youth Program.
